My name is Angela Johnson and I am the Executive Director
of CHALK Preschools. I was born and raised in Chicago.
I graduated from Southern Illinois University in 2001
with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and took
additional Master’s level classes in Early Childhood.
I have worked in the childcare field for over 14 years
as both a teacher and a director. I was given the best
career opportunity in September of 2004 to move to Bloomington,
Illinois and help start the first CHALK Preschool. In
August of 2006 I moved back to Chicago to once again work
closely with the Oleff’s to start CHALK of Lakeview/Chicago
(December 2006) and CHALK of Clybourn Corridor/Chicago
(October 2007). I am very excited to get to know all of
the new families that have joined ours at CHALK. |

Hello my name is Kim Serpe and I am the Director at CHALK
Preschool. I grew up in Buffalo Grove, IL. I attended
Illinois State University and graduated with a major in
Social Work and minor in Psychology. I then attended University
of Illinois Chicago and obtained my Masters Degree in
Social Work with a specialization in child and family.
The past two years I have been working as a foster care
case worker. I have a lot of experience working with children
in many different settings. I’m excited to get to
know all of the students and parents at CHALK Preschool!! |

Hello Everyone!!! My name is Celia Seferovich and I am
from Leawood, Kansas. I graduated in May 2008 from the
University of Kansas (Rock Chalk Jayhawk, Go KU!) where
I received my Bachelors degree in Applied Behavioral Science
with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education & Intervention.
My past experiences with children have ranged from teaching
swimming lessons to working in preschools and childcare
centers. My passion for teaching continues to grow and
I truly enjoy working with children because there is never
a dull moment! I recently moved to Chicago and I am excited
to begin the new school year at CHALK Preschool. I am
looking forward to meeting you all! |

My name is Stephanie Friedman and I am one of the teachers
in the Green Room! I am very excited to meet you and your
family. I have recently graduated from Wittenberg University
with a B.A. in Early Childhood Education. I am originally
from Lake Forest Illinois and have recently moved to Chicago.
My background in education started in Summer Camps when
I was just 14 years old, and I have always loved teaching
children. I am enthusiastic about working with you and
the staff at CHALK. |

Hello families! My name is Maeve Carey and I am so happy
to be part of the wonderful staff at CHALK Preschool.
I am a teacher in the Green Room and always enjoy meeting
new families and students!
I grew up in a very small town in Iowa (population 500!),
then moved to Iowa City to attend the University of
Iowa where I majored in Psychology and minored in Sociology
and French. The first job I took during college was
as an assistant teacher at a preschool, which helped
me discover how much I love working with kids and I
have worked with children in many different contexts
ever since--from preschools to hospitals to summer camps.
I made the move to Chicago in early September 2007.
City life is a big change, but so far I am loving every
minute of it! I can't wait to meet you!

Hi! My name is Amber Rue. I am one of the teachers in
the Blue Room. I grew up in Hamilton, OH (just outside
of Cincinnati) and went to school at the University of
Dayton where I earned a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood
Education. After graduating, I moved to Denver, CO for
a year, making the most of the beautiful weather and wonderful
skiing. After a year of living in Denver, I decided to
return to the Midwest and moved to Chicago in July of
2005. Previously, I worked in a Head Start preschool in
Denver and a private preschool in Evanston. I am looking
forward to a great opportunity here at CHALK! |

Hi! My name is Danielle Herman and I am so excited to
be apart of CHALK preschool! I am from Grayslake Illinois
originally, but I went to college at the University
of Kansas where I received my degree in early childhood
education. I have always loved working with children.
My first experience working with children was in high
school. I worked at a summer camp assisting children
with disabilities. After graduating from KU I became
a teacher in a 2 year old classroom at a preschool in
Kansas City. This only lasted a few months before deciding
to move back home to be closer to my family. I am thrilled
to be back in Chicago and to be teaching here at CHALK!

ago, I graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio,
where I received a B. A. in Early Childhood Education.

Hi there! My name is Michelle Mandel and I am so excited
to teach in the yellow room! I absolutely love working
with children and cannot wait to assist in their learning,
growth, and development. I graduated from Hope College
in Holland, MI with a B.A. in Elementary Education and
a minor in Language Arts. I grew up in a suburb of Chicago
and moved to Chicago in September 2007. Aside from teaching
at CHALK, some of my interests are working out, traveling,
shopping and enjoying what the city has to offer with
my friends! |

Hi CHALK Families! My name is Kate Peralta and I am
thrilled to be teaching in the Purple Room!
I am from Charlotte, Michigan and I attended Western
Michigan University where I graduated in December 2007
with a Bachelor of Science in Education and an Early
Childhood endorsement. I have experience in several
Michigan Public Schools as well as Preschools. I moved
to Chicago in February 2008 and am enjoying the big
city! I look forward to becoming a familiar face in
the Purple Room and throughout CHALK.

Hello, my name is Nicole McKheen and I am a co-teacher
in the Orange Room. I graduated from Purdue University
in 2005, and have been teaching early childhood since.
I moved to Chicago in August 2006 and have been loving
every minute of it! When I’m not at CHALK, I am
shopping, hanging out with my roommates, or reading. I
look forward to meeting all of the CHALK families! |

Hi CHALK Families! My name is Jaime Pine and I am one
of the Lead Teachers in the Orange Room. I have been teaching
at CHALK since it opened and have had such a great experience
with all of the kids, families and staff. I have been
teaching Pre-K for the past 5 years and have worked with
kids of all ages throughout my life. I grew up in Highland
Park, IL and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison
in 2001. In my free time, I love to shop, hang out with
my family & friends and spend time with my dogs! |

Hi Chalk Families! My name is Meredith Thomas and I am
very excited to be a part of CHALK Preschool. I am originally
from the Upper Penninsula of Michigan; however I spent
five years in Mount Pleasant Michigan attending Central
Michigan University. I graduated from Central in May 2007
with an Elementary Education degree. I spent the last
school year in Michigan teaching fourth grade and I am
very excited to have made the move to Chicago. I look
